Embedded Software Engineer
London, hybrid
Minimal is a London based technology company building a new way to move goods through cities. Intelligent and autonomous vehicles, the software that runs them, and the operations that deliver, all built by our small and agile team.
Everything happens in our West London micro-factory, where we assemble vehicles, develop software and build new tooling all at once. Nothing here is off limits. If you have an idea, a solution or a better way of working, build it. You’ll be working alongside people with a passion for what we’re building and have genuine enjoyment in the process of building it.
Embedded software development is changing. AI is a genuine step change in how vehicle software gets written, tested and shipped, and that's what we're building at Minimal: a new way to develop software for vehicles, vertically integrated from silicon to street. Our first product, Pedal 4, is already running with enterprise fleets. We need an embedded engineer who wants the whole vehicle rather than a corner of it.
What you'll do
- Own embedded systems across the vehicle: motor control, power, comms, sensing, vehicle-level behaviour
- Build the CI/CD and test infrastructure that lets us ship firmware to a live fleet with confidence
- Take features from architecture through bring-up to validation on real hardware
- Use the latest AI tooling to automate and accelerate development. You'll have full access and real influence over how we use it.
What you'll bring
- Strong embedded C/C++
- Systems engineering instincts. You think in interfaces, failure modes and requirements.
- CI/CD for embedded targets
- Hardware and software integration and bring-up
- Comfort making architecture decisions without a senior engineer to sign them off
Nice to have (any of these) Motor control · whole vehicle control · general software development · CAN and other comms stacks · embedded AI · IoT · embedded Linux · STM32 · vision systems · robotics · autonomous systems
What you'll get
- Competitive salary
- Share options in a high-growth company
- Pension via salary sacrifice
- 30 days' holiday annually (inclusive of bank holidays), plus a two-week company shutdown over Christmas/New Year
- Training on our vehicles and battery systems, and time with the engineering team
- Tools and workshop provided
- Hybrid working: 4 days a week in our west London HQ
Why now Small team, short feedback loops, vehicles on the road. The work you do this year defines the platform we build on for the next decade.
