Manufacturing Engineer / Machinist (Graduate)

London

Minimal — Park Royal, London

Minimal is a London-based technology company building a new way to move goods through cities: intelligent, autonomous vehicles and the software that runs them, all built by our small, agile team.

Everything happens in our West London factory, where we assemble vehicles, develop software and build new tooling side by side. Nothing here is off-limits. If you have an idea, a solution or a better way of working, build it. You’ll be working alongside people who are passionate about what we’re building and who enjoy the process of building it.

Every vehicle we've put on the road was built in west London by us. Sub-assemblies, frames, drivetrains, final assembly and test all happen in one factory we designed ourselves. We're building the team that scales the production run. We're looking for a graduate manufacturing engineer or machinist who wants to make the parts, jigs, fixtures and prototypes that move us forward, and to take on the mechanical problems nobody has solved yet.

What you'll do

  • Machine, fabricate and finish parts, jigs and fixtures in our in-house workshop, on manual and CNC machines
  • Build prototype vehicles, sub-assemblies and components from first sketch to working hardware, and turn them around in days
  • Take on complex mechanical problems such as fit, tolerance stack-ups, wear and failures in the field: get to the root cause, then design, make and prove the fix
  • Design, draw and test tooling for components and assemblies, from CAD to finished part
  • Support the line and production staff in any way possible
  • Create and maintain work instructions, and develop tools to automate them
  • Help bring new technologies and systems into the factory, from concept to lights-out operation
  • Work hand in hand with the mechanical, electrical and embedded teams on day-to-day build issues
  • Support offsite activities such as supplier visits, shows/marketing events and vehicle servicing

What you'll bring

  • A manufacturing, mechanical or production engineering degree (recent or nearly finished), or an apprenticeship or time-served background as a machinist or toolmaker. We care more about what you’ve made than what you’ve studied.
  • Hands-on machining experience on manual mills and lathes, CNC, or both
  • Prototypes you’ve built yourself, whether a personal project or a workshop job where you took something from idea to working part
  • A methodical approach to mechanical problems. You don’t stop at the first fix, and you test the one you land on.
  • The ability to read and produce technical drawings, and some CAD experience (Fusion, SolidWorks, Onshape or similar)
  • Care and precision. You know what a tolerance is and why it matters.
  • The drive to keep questioning how we do things, iterate and improve

Nice to have (any of these)

CNC programming (CAM, G-code) · welding and fabrication · 3D printing and rapid prototyping · GD&T and inspection/metrology · root cause analysis (5 Whys, 8D) · smart tool integration · wiring harness build/rework · experience with ERP, MES or QMS software · basic coding · experience developing AI tools · part tracking/traceability

What you'll get

  • Competitive salary
  • Share options in a high-growth company
  • Pension via salary sacrifice
  • 30 days' holiday annually (inclusive of bank holidays), plus a two-week company shutdown over Christmas/New Year
  • Training on our vehicles and battery systems, and time with the engineering team
  • Tools and workshop provided
  • 5 days a week in our west London HQ

Why now

The build process is still being written and the factory is still being developed. Now's the time to make your mark. The parts, prototypes and fixes you make will be on the line in days, not years.

Interested? Send us something you've built.
